Certifications and Licenses

Mike was awarded Certificates of Special Competence in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in 1990. He was recertified in 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. In 2009, he was certified as an Associate by the American Board of Trial Advocates. In 2019, he was awarded the rank of Advocate.

Mike is licensed to practice in all Texas state courts, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Northern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas, and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He has also served on the Texas Supreme Court Pattern Jury Charge Committee.

Professional Education

Mike completed his undergraduate studies at Baylor University, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1980. He then attended Baylor University School of Law, where he obtained his Juris Doctor in 1982. In 2000, he attended the National Mediation Academy, where he was credentialed as a mediator, qualifying him to serve as a mediator and arbitrator in disputed civil matters under the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code.

Professional Background

Mike entered private practice immediately upon graduation from law school with the Tyler law firm now known as Ramey & Flock. His practice has always been focused on personal injury and civil trial law. Mike has litigated legal matters across the state of Texas, including personal injury claims of all types, medical malpractice cases, oil and gas disputes, corporate disputes, real property disputes, and products liability claims.

Personal Background and Interests

Mike was born on February 9, 1958, in Stuttgart, Germany. He and his wife are the proud parents of two daughters, two sons-in-law, one granddaughter, one grandson, and two hyperactive dogs. Over the years, he has served the community through various social service agencies. Mike has served as both a member and President of the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries of East Texas and as a member of the Board of Directors and Advisory Board of the Regional East Texas Food Bank. In addition, Mike is a past Chairman and present member of the Board of Directors of CASA for Kids of East Texas, a non-profit organization providing trained community volunteers to advocate in court for abused and neglected children. He also serves on the Board of Directors and performs pro bono legal representation for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Smith County, a non-profit dedicated to the healing of child victims of physical and sexual abuse.
